I’m an infrastructure and platform architect and engineer with more than 20 years of experience designing and building private and multi-cloud platforms. My work covers compute, storage, networking, automation, virtualization and containerization, in both enterprise and service-provider environments.
In my consulting work, I usually stay involved throughout the project, from the initial assessment and architecture to implementation and eventually handing the platform over to operations. I work closely with customers and engineering teams on architecture and technical decisions, but also spend a lot of time working directly with the technology and automation behind the platforms.
I have worked extensively with the VMware stack over the years, particularly VMware Cloud Foundation. In recent years, a large part of my work has been around platform engineering, including VCF private clouds, multi-tenant service-provider platforms, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD and self-service for enterprise and service-provider customers.
I currently lead a team of consultants and architects at evoila, an IT services and consulting company delivering cloud and infrastructure platforms for enterprise and service-provider customers. I’m responsible for the team’s technical direction and disciplinary leadership. I’m also involved in design workshops and knowledge transfer, and regularly work directly with engineers on implementation, automation and troubleshooting.
Recent work:
- Designed and led VMware Cloud Foundation 9 private-cloud deployments for public-sector and enterprise customers, typically spanning multiple sites and availability zones, often across continents, with hundreds of hosts supporting thousands of virtual machines. Designed the target architecture, including compute, networking, storage, management domains, workload domains and tenant separation, and defined the migration approach for existing environments. This covered the initial assessment, design, implementation, workload migration and handover to operations.
- Delivered VCF 9 proofs of concept for management-domain backup and restore, brownfield vSphere/NSX import and multi-tenant self-service. Customers included organisations in logistics, retail, automotive and the public sector.
- Built multi-tenant self-service platforms using VCF/Aria Automation, Orchestrator and APIs for organisations in the public sector, defence, banking and transport. Designed and implemented the automation workflows and API integrations behind these platforms.
- Carried out data center assessments covering the existing environment, target architecture, TCO/ROI and migration planning. Several of these assessments resulted in larger platform projects.
